Do you remember that part I said the other day about making sure you take the first step? I forgot to mention the whole 'not giving up after you fail at the first step' part.
You see... I'm trying to learn how to knit socks on double pointed needles. I very nearly threw said double pointed needles at the instructions I was working from. That's bad because they instructions were up on my computer screen.
Try not to let your first few times discourage you, particularly if you really want to learn a skill.
You can do it. Just keep your focus.
I personally don't like using double pointed needles. They always seem really awkward and in danger of falling out. I knit in the round using the double circular method instead. Here's the instructions: http://www.weebleknits.net/twocirculars.html
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need to find a method that works best for you. Good luck! (You are making me seriously consider trying to knit socks btw, I've never tried before.)
I don't have any problem with DPNs... it's just a matter of getting used to them. I was watching a tutorial that suggested for beginners using bamboo or wood DPNs because they were less slidey than aluminum so you're less likely to lose your stitches.
ReplyDeleteThe double circular method looks more intimidating (to me, anyway) than DPNs. But like you said, whatever method works best for you.
GO KNIT SOCKS NOW!!
I have some special sock yarn that I have yet to attempt to make into socks... If I find a half-decent crochet pattern I will let you know!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely let me know how crocheting socks works out. I'm not a big crocheter, but I'm willing to get better at it if the sock-making is easier.
